Hello my Bachelor Nation friends!
So as you might notice, this blog is coming to you a little earlier than usual.
So as you might notice, this blog is coming to you a little earlier than usual.
It is with a heavy heart that I have to announce that the Bachelor blog is being retired. Yes, I’m being serious, and yes, I have good reasons, I swear!!!!!
Hear me out:
1) It’s surprisingly time-consuming
You guys have heard me semi-jokingly complain about how much time of my life I give up for this show, but it’s really true. These episodes are 2 hours long, sometimes twice a week, and it usually takes me up to an hour after the episode is over to edit and post. That means every week, I have to block off Mondays 8:00-11:00. In the past, I’ve even turned down plans on Mondays because I had to watch the Bachelor…..that’s really lame. Even lamer yet, these days I’m in bed by 10. I’m not sure I can commit as much time to this hobby anymore :(

2) It gets boring
I don’t know about you guys, but last season, I got bored mid-way through when I realized I didn’t really want Jojo to end up with any of those guys. I essentially lost interest in the season and I feel like my writing (if we can even call this writing???) reflected that. After a while it felt like an obligation instead of something I enjoyed.

3) I don’t like Nick
If the blog felt like an obligation with Jojo, who I LOVED, imagine how it would feel with Nick, who I honestly don’t care about at all. Seriously, no one I know who watches this show (and I clearly know a lot) is excited that Nick is the Bachelor. If you’ll remember, I regularly started posting Bachelor blogs because I, uh, *really* liked Ben Higgins. I clearly don’t feel the same about Nick and to cop everyone’s favorite Bachelor phrase, this blog would not be here for the right reasons if it was about Nick (lol).

I first posted about this franchise when Katie and I were watching Bachelor in Paradise and one of us commented that we could make a TV show purely about our commentary while watching it….or a blog. It was originally a joke, and I only intended to write about one episode, but it got such a positive response from my friends that I started doing it every week.
Back then, those episodes were averaging 17 views. Somehow, the posts from the past 2 seasons were averaging 135 views! Now, relatively speaking, that’s still far from “successful” but for something that literally started as a joke between my friends to have over a hundred people reading every week is really neat to me.
My heart would swell every time you guys told me you look forward to reading each week, or that you read it with your mom, or that you laughed out loud at certain parts. Some of you guys would even read the blog as you watched the episode the next day so you got the play by play. That’s dedication! Thank you for reading and engaging with this little project of mine, because I was so sure I would get texts every week telling me to stop embarrassing myself by caring enough about a reality show to write a weekly blog about it (and audition for it….)
I’m sorry if this news disappoints anyone, but don’t worry: I obviously am still watching, so definitely reach out and chat with me about literally anything Bachelor related. I can also direct you to some really funny Bachelor blogs and Twitter accounts if you’re craving that witty commentary. And who knows? Maybe this is not permanent retirement for the Bachelor Blog. I hope that someday I can again commit the amount of time this absolute mess of a TV show deserves, and I hope you’ll still be reading then :)
